Teachers

People (Stupid, "Why don't we know any Italians who grew up in Brooklyn?"[what about MaryAnne]"No, that's not what I mean.") people, sometimes nervously ask me what I think of The Sopranos. If I'm offended by it. I always reply that I would only be offended by it if it were a crappy show. Fortunately, it rocks. And so I suffer through the obnoxiously long hiatuses and the gloomy, non-Sopranos days of the week when the show is in season. In short, I love the fucking show. Enough already, you're gonna make me cry.

With this in mind, I felt I needed to watch at least an episode or two of NBC's new sitcom "Teachers," if only to have a response ready should someone request my opinion. People sometimes have a hard time coming up with things to say. (Perhaps that is what inspired one of my colleagues to demand that we take a "Who's Cuter – Derek or A-Rod?" poll down in the Teachers' lounge. She deemed it shallow and stupid. [duh!] I think she's bitter that she's getting ever older, balder, doughier, and is not is smart as she thinks she is.)

How is the show? It's crappy. I was not offended by the stereotypes it proffers (in my experience, horny teachers who drink (hell, get high) at school are par for the course. How could I be offended by teachers being portrayed as a bunch of hotties? I do take issue with the high heels (sensible shoes do prevail). But the cleavage? I cannot say I have not donned a snug shirt on occasion to try to improve attendance, especially in those end of the day classes.

I think The Education Wonks had the most insightful review:

O'Dark Prince Of The Peacock Network, Please preserve us from this dumb, cliché-filled, poorly-written, poorly-acted, and unfunny program masquerading-as-comedic-entertainment. If it be your will, make the Nielson Families both blind and apathetic to such idiocy, so that the ratings stay low and result in its swift and just cancellation.

Amen.

Three days till Spring Break!!!
