Week four of The Artist’s Way deals with changing self-definition.  Writer Julia Cameron quotes Anton Chekov, who advised that “in order to have self-expression we must first have a self to express.”  Matt Walsh, one of the founders of UCB recently said something similar on Riki Lindhome’s podcast, Making It. I often need to hear a message more than once before it sinks in.

I am not someone who has known from age eight what I want to be when I grow up.  And I sometimes lament the years lost to exploring the options and living life. It’s good to hear this side of me can make for a richer output, whatever the medium.

On a bad day I feel directionless, but on a good day I am inspired by the thrill of trying something new.
